Chairman Meets the Parents

Mel Carlile, Chairman of the Ashok Tree Foundation meets the parents of the students at Sita Devi Charity School in India.  The open discussion between Mel and the parents, facilitated by Dr. Radhika, was very insightful.  Three main messages were discussed, children’s health, their education and how to be better parents.  It was noticeable that some of the children were experiencing dehydration during these hot month, while school is out of session.  Typical children playing without stopping to think how important it is to take a drink of water.  The meeting started with how to be better parents, supporting their children on their academic journey, to not smack  their children and to resist drinking alcohol and smoking as to set a good healthy example for their children.  The parents engaged in serious discussion around the importance of their education.  They requested that we extend the school to be able to take on more children, as most families present would have one child at Sita Devi Charity School and another at the local government school.  They also requested that we consider building a secondary school, as the children’s onward education from primary school would be under threat.  We were excited to learn that several of the children are teaching yoga to their siblings at home!!
